Paro is one of the most beautiful valleys that has been a popular tourist destination due to its majestic natural beauty and numerous adventure activities. While there are numerous things to do in this valley, Paro is widely popular for being home to ‘Paro Taktsang’ or ‘Tiger’s Nest’. Surrounded by lush green valleys and numerous monasteries, this is one of the best places to visit in Bhutan. The valley of Paro is situated on the banks of river Pho Chhu which makes it a very fertile land with producing huge amounts of red rice in the locally farmed terrace fields. The valley being located amidst rocky and steep mountains is popular among adventure enthusiasts making it a great place for indulging in trekking and hiking activities.
Placed at an altitude of 900m above sea level, this is one of the oldest and largest monasteries of Bhutan. Popularly known as the tiger’s nest, it is believed that Guru Rinpoche visited this monastery on the back of a tigress to spread the teachings of Buddhism.
One of the oldest monasteries of Paro, Rinpung Dzong was established in the year 1646 which today operates as the administrative head of Paro district. The Dzong is also popular for hosting our Tsechu, one of the largest festivals in Bhutan.
With a staggering elevation of 3,988m, the Chele La Pass is recognized for being one of the highest motorable passes in the country. Surrounded by snow-covered roads and a thick alpine forest, the pass offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas.
This is one of the most popular attractions of Paro known for being home to a seated statue of the future Buddha called Jampa. Built in the year 1525, the monastery is known for its beautiful architectural structure and verdant greenery.
Bhutan is well known for its unique cuisine and Namgay Artisanal Brewery is an example of it. Located in the Paro Valley, the brewery is known for producing various forms of alcoholic beverages using ancient techniques and local ingredients.
A five-storey building housing a 2 storied temple, Zuri Dzong was built in the year 1352 and to date showcases the rich culture and architectural marvel of Bhutan. The place is located in a remote valley and attracts trekkers and hikers in huge numbers.
