Although Bhutan is an isolated country it is well connected with various modes of transportation with India. Phuentsholing is the only Bhutanese city that shares a border with India via Jaigaon and can be travelled through various modes of transport.
Paro International Airport located in the Paro Valley is the only international airport in the country that operates domestic as well as international flights connecting Bhutan with India.
Bhutan does not have any rail routes preventing tourists from accessing the country through railways. However, Hasimara is the major railway station located at a distance of 18km from Phuentsholing which lets you travel in railways from major cities of India. There are numerous taxis and rental cars that can be booked to travel to Phuentsholing from the Hasimara station.
Although it is time-consuming travelling Jaigaon by road offers one of the best travelling experiences. Asian Highway 48 or National Highway 317A is the major route that can be travelled along to reach Bhutan via roadways.
