Perched in the western part of Bhutan, Haa Valley shares boundaries with major districts of the country such as Paro, Chhukha and Samtse. Surrounded by lush greenery, verdant hills and rich cultural significance, the valley is considered among the most favoured tourist destinations in western Bhutan. In ancient times, before the arrival of Buddhism, the people of Haa Valley used to follow animist traditions which later on were transformed with the help of Buddhism in the early 8th century. The valley is also popular for hosting the Haa Summer Festival which showcases the rich culture, folk and traditions of Bhutan.
Lhakhang Karpo is one of the most popular and the largest temples of this region which also serves as a sacred site of this valley. According to the legends black and white pigeons were released for the selection of sites. The temple was named Karpo as the white pigeon landed in this temple.
Similar to the Lakhang Karpo, Lhakhang Nagpo is the temple where a black pigeon landed as a result of the same event. Unlike the name of the temples, this place is surrounded by lush greenery and includes a sacred lake located underneath the temple.
Situated at a distance of 3km from the Haa Valley, Yangthang is a picturesque village that attracts tourists with its numerous activity opportunities. Surrounded by numerous biking trails and off-road tracks, this village is a paradise for adventure seekers and trekkers.
